And you're going to make the same mistake everyone makes: you're going to pick the "smartest" one.

The one with the most parameters. The biggest context window. The highest benchmark score. The one that can write poetry AND debug Kubernetes AND explain quantum physics.

And then you're going to wonder why it's terrible at the one thing you actually needed it to do.

The Intelligence Trap

The AI industry has trained us to evaluate agents on raw capability. Can it reason? Can it code? Can it handle a 200,000-token context window?

Step 1: Define the Role, Not the Task

Don't start with "I need an agent that can write code." Start with "I need a DevOps engineer who understands CI/CD pipelines, thinks about reliability first, and communicates in clear, direct language."

The difference is enormous. The first gives you a generic tool. The second gives you a colleague.

When you define the role, you're implicitly defining:
